Helping you plan, start and grow your business
Who Encourages You?
We all need words of encouragement from time to time. Just the right word at just the right time can give us hope, increase our sense of purpose and cement our determination.
If we are fortunate, we live with people who do more than simply exist with us. They see our struggles and understand our dreams. They listen to our frustrations. They give us perspective and balance when we get a bit off-kilter. They help us keep going when our energy runs low.
Regardless of age, marital status or financial status, we need friends and extended family who care about us – sharing time, laughter and tears. They enrich our lives, as we need and want to enrich theirs. We see and bring out the best in each other, rather than the worst.
Team activities can sometimes give us the most direct encouragement. “You can do it!,” our teammates call out. “Go, go, go!” they say as one. Good coaches point out our weaknesses in a way that makes us work to excel without losing heart.
We can also find encouragement through business. As we work hard and connect with others, positive reinforcement and thoughtful, constructive criticism can come from vendors, partners, customers, employees and peers.
One of the best places to find encouragement is within a faith community. Each Sunday, as I speak with friends and strangers alike, I find energy and purpose. We share a common foundation for life, even though we may disagree on details. At church, we seek to identify the ways in which God is working in our lives, and how we can best serve him. People feel free to share their own life lessons in order to assist others with their struggles. We all know that we are not perfect, and help each other through times of failure and loss.
Just last weekend, I was at a special church event, and feeling a bit deflated about my work as The Entrepreneur’s Friend. My book is finally published and I have not firmly established my next goal. However, someone I met just a few minutes earlier gave me tremendous encouragement about my work! Next week, I will tell share his words of wisdom. Perhaps they will help you, too!
