Strengthening your body is not a competition, but a journey to do your best.

Some people, such as my husband, are passionate about physical exercise. He looks forward to heading off to the gym, or riding his bike, or rollerblading – almost every day. I, on the other hand, do not enjoy going to the gym.

Most of my life I have been a relatively sedentary person. Regardless, I faithfully do my stretches, and use the foam roller to relax my tight muscles.

Next comes balance training.

Then, I count as the weights rise.

Next piece of equipment.


Eventually, even as my muscles start to complain, my mind stops griping.

Here I am, doing what is good for me on so many levels. Suddenly I realize that I am starting to feel better.


I think I’ll go up a weight on this one – I’m ready.

That was hard! Better take an extra minute before the next set.


Thanks to my spouse, I have learned – not to love the gym, but to love leaving the gym feeling great from a good workout. I feel better physically and mentally. It feels a heck of a lot better than beating myself up about not going.

    I liked this as it is so true. I experienced all of this and felt good. I believe that it prepared me for surgery which went well!
